Rotsinbos Bush Camp and Lodge is a family-owned private game farm and eco-tourism destination situated in the Brits bushveld within the North West Province of South Africa. Located on a 170-hectare farm approximately 45 minutes from Pretoria and 90 minutes from Johannesburg, the property offers a secluded retreat in a malaria-free environment. The landscape is characterized by rugged rooibos vegetation, indigenous trees, and distinctive granite boulder formations that define the natural aesthetic of the camp.

Accommodation and Facilities

The lodge provides a diverse range of lodging options designed to cater to various levels of outdoor engagement. For guests seeking structured comfort, the main lodge can accommodate up to 22 people, complemented by four unique bush chalets and a luxury “Patrys Tent” built directly into the granite boulders. For traditional campers, the site features 20 private ablution campsites, each equipped with its own shower, sink, and toilet, alongside 12 campsites with shared facilities and 3 off-grid sites for a more primitive experience. Glamping is also available via a fully equipped 4-sleeper Ratel Caravan. Communal amenities include a “Sunset Boma,” a viewing deck, a swimming pool, and a small kiosk known as “The Mall” for essential supplies.

Wildlife and Recreation

Nature and wildlife viewing are central to the Rotsinbos experience, with a wide variety of bird and game species residing on the farm. Guests can observe animals from Mike’s Wildlife Hideout or from a dedicated sunset lookout point. On-site recreational activities include mountain biking, hiking, and game viewing, as well as unique offerings such as 3-wheeler scooter excursions and the option to rent mobile wood-fired hot tubs for use at individual campsites. For relaxation, full-body massages by qualified practitioners can be booked in advance to be performed within the bush setting.

Pet Policy and Operations

Rotsinbos maintains a pet-friendly status, though strictly under specific regulations to protect the local wildlife and ensure guest comfort. Small pets are permitted at the campsites only by prior arrangement and approval, with a limit of two small pets per stand. Pets are strictly prohibited from the lodge and chalets and must remain on a leash at all times, particularly when entering the wildlife sections of the property. The farm is managed by the Solyom family, specifically Mike and Dawn Solyom, and remains accessible via standard gravel roads without the necessity of a 4×4 vehicle. While the site utilizes Eskom for power, it is equipped with a backup generator to ensure a consistent electricity supply for guests.
