The NollywoodWeek Film Festival in Paris has unveiled its selections for the 2024 edition, promising an electrifying cinematic journey that celebrates the best of African storytelling and cutting-edge technology. Here’s a glimpse of the captivating films featured in this year’s festival:

  1. “Atiko”: Directed by Biodun Stephen, this drama revolves around lifelong friends and mothers, Ajoke and Lape, who harbor a deep and dangerous secret that they must keep hidden from their beloved sons.
  2. “All the Colours of the World are Between Black and White”: Babatunde Apalowo’s award-winning film, set in Lagos, explores the love story between Bambino and Bawa. Their struggles with sexual identities in Nigerian society take center stage, and the film will also have a theatrical run in France starting in May.
  3. “Sista”: Originally premiering on Prime Video in 2023, Biodun Stephen’s film follows a single mother forced to confront her past and protect her children when it resurfaces.
  4. “Dynamite”: Uche Aguh’s standout selection features Ifeoma Nkiruka Chukwuogo as Kiki, a songstress caught between her controlling husband and a love affair with her bassist, leading to a difficult decision.
  5. “Atoka”: Seun Afolabi’s film follows a down-on-his-luck young man who relocates with his wife to his hometown, seeking hope after losing his job and encountering a student with a special gift.
  6. Short Films Category:
    • “A Quiet Monday” by Dika Ofoma: The story revolves around Kamnonu and Ogbonna, who defy a compulsory “sit-at-home” mandate on Mondays, despite the dangers posed by a secessionist militant group in south-eastern Nigeria.
    • “Halima’s Choice” by Korede Azeez: Representing Nigeria in the African Folktales Reimagined anthology, this film is set in a world where 99% of the population exists in virtual realms. A young girl from a secluded Fulani village inadvertently elopes with an AI to escape an arranged marriage.

The 11th NollywoodWeek Festival will take place from May 2nd to 5th, 2024, in Paris. Don’t miss this celebration of creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange!
